This page will show you a few great airbrushes and airbrush kits. Iwata, Harder and Steenbeck, Olympus, EFBE, Badger and Paasche, amongst these airbrushes are good and great brand manufacturers. As long as they are well oiled, cleaned and looked after, they will last.
Welcome to my online review of these great airbrushes. Whether your airbrushing for beginners, wanting an airbrush set or an airbrush kit this is my personal review site and I hope it gives you a better idea of what airbrush will suit you right now.
There will be a review on the airbrush paints and airbrush compressors soon so watch this space. Although I use my airbrushes for finely detailed miniature painting, there are many other uses for them ranging from airbrush makeup, airbrush stencils, airbrush tattoo, airbrush tanning and airbrush art.
You can even use these airbrushes for cakes. If you got to the ‘opi painting’ section I have videos there that show how to airbrush. Below are reviews on some of the best airbrushes that are out there but which is the best airbrush? I hope you find these reviews helpful.
Harder & Steenbeck Infinity CR Plus 2 in 1 Airbrush
The Best Harder & Steenbeck Airbrush. Top Harder & Steenbeck Airbrush.
It’s a hefty price tag, the Infinity CR Plus 2 in 1 is highly recommended though. As well as making high tech precision engineering cars, the Germans have done it again with the sheer craftsmanship of this beauty. It comes with a solid case too.
Great for painting miniatures or bigger objects by changing needle size.
Great airbrush but for beginners I would go with a more budget airbrush first.
Best Iwata Airbrush for beginners despite the price tag. Great investment and worth the stretch if your serious.
Iwata seems to be a standard in the miniature painting community. It features gravity feed and dual action.
Great for beginners, recommended by professional painters but not only for beginner airbrush artists. Professionals use higher end Iwata models too. The 0.35 needle tip creates a variety between spray radius’.
It comes with a 1/3 oz. sized cup. The needle just needs care and attention especially with acrylic paints as they dry quick. If the paint is kept thin, needle area kept moist then this lovely piece of equipment will last you for years!
The Iwata-Medea Revolution CR is a great versatile airbrush perfect for model work. 1/3 oz gravity-feed cup with a bulkier 0.5mm needle and nozzle. This airbrush presents a larger nozzle which means an easier time with thicker paints. Dual action trigger. Great value for money.
Great airbrush for beginners. Simple to use, although not as delicate as the Iwata Eclipse. A large cup so you don’t have to worry about over spill when blowing back air.
A great all round airbrush which can be used in many areas. From Gundam modeling, bicycle helm customization to spray painting your van. Also great for makeup artists. It will do anything.
Balance is nice in the hand and it cleans easily. Highly recommended.
One of the better American brand budget airbrush for beginners. The single action limits the control of paint spray but makes it simple to use. Most professionals use these types of airbrushes when doing large amounts of repetitive work.
The siphon feed makes it easier to clean.
Not brilliant for detailed work, this airbrush would work great for terrain and model making. Scenery making and covering large areas rapidly.
Bear in mind the air compressor would need to be purchased specifically from Paasche otherwise you may have to find adapters for connections if using other compressors.
The Badger design with the self centering drop in nozzle, cutaway handle, and needle with ball grip at the end for easy removal is great.
Dual action trigger. Not recommended as a beginner airbrush. Paints have to be properly thinned if you want this to last. Also note like with any device you ever buy, read the manual before you start using it. Also before using paint, add airflow improver from Vallejo.
Smooth trigger action. The weight of this airbrush is slightly heavier then the other mentioned above.
Its a great airbrush for fine detail work like miniature painting. But being so delicate in it’s small moving parts you have to be extra careful than other airbrushes when taken apart.
Overall Great balance, easy to clean and with a smooth trigger action. The easy needle pull out is a great feature for fast cleaning. This smart Badger Airbrush is worth the buy at a great price.
It's really lightweight which gives control over the device and spray. The light weight of the airbrush makes it fun to use. Please note that the feed doesn't have a lid and this is a very delicate device, the needle can get bent easily so be careful with it. It's the ultimate tool for the professional illustrator.
Note, despite thinning them a lot, and using various combinations of thinner and retarder medium, there can be a tendency of "spatter" problems, particularly with Humbrol Acrylics. Other paint brands like P3, Citadel and Vallejo seem to work fine as long as they are thinned down.
It’s a great airbrush for a great price. The Badger Sotar 2020-2F with the fine needle setup is one of the top notch fine detail airbrushes on the market, and it's a bargain compared to equivalent products from other brands.
Like the Micron, this is a great tool for miniatures, model painting or for makeup artists.
The Badger RK-1 is incredibly accurate and easy to use. The adjustable trigger limit on the tail of the airbrush is super nice, it prevents paint from over spraying delicate parts. You can shoot out paint in bursts.
Be aware connecting it to a BA1100 compressor, the cap can fly off and all air just flies out of the cup that holds paint.
Badger supply nothing the in way of instructions other than a detailed blue print, parts list and some general maintenance tips.
The nozzle is very small, and easy to drop. I would advise to have some sort of large container you can hold the airbrush over, so the nozzle does not fall to the floor.
Overall however, once you have this and master the use of it, it will take you way beyond what you can do with a single action thick needle brush.
Could possibly be the Finest air brush made…? The Best Iwata Airbrush out there? It certainly ranks up there alone. A distant comparison to the Harder and Steenbeck high end ranges may have some comparison.
With a tiny needle and nozzle combination of .18 millimeters. The Iwata Custom Micron CM-B (V2) with it's hand matched head system offers exceptional atomization, performance & control.
The Custom Micron CM-B features Iwata's smallest needle / nozzle combination for the most precise & accurate detail spraying. You'll have supreme control over your painting.
Delivered in an outstanding foam lined, slide lock, red & chrome full metal storage case with full instructions, nozzle spanner, pistol grip filter & Iwata Super Lube airbrush lubricant
The feed is easy to clean and with a high quality stainless steel needle you'll experience the most comfortable switch between spray distances. Is it too overpriced? Possibly. Such is Japanese engineering. It’s efficient, consistent and reliable.
